Born in Paris on March 26, 1963, Olivier Reboul studied at the National Conservatory of Music and Danse in Paris, where he obtained First Prizes in Piano and Chamber Music in 1979 ; followed by First Prizes in Vocal Coaching and Vocal Acccompaniment in 1988. Thanks to the work he undertook with the pianist Colette Zérah, starting in April of 1986, his activities developed in several directions.
Starting in 1987, he worked as a Vocal Coach for many large parisian symphonic ensembles, as well as for the Festival of Vaison la Romaine, the Monte Carlo Opera, the New Israeli Opera, the Châtelet Theatre (Paris), the Nikikai Opera (Tokyo); collaborating with conductors and soloists such as: Ozawa, Boulez, Horne, Altmeyer, Maazel, etc. In 1992 he was chosen by Marius Constant and Peter Brook as Vocal Coach and Solo Pianist for Impressions de Pelléas, performed in Paris and on a European Tour. Beginning in 1993, Olivier Reboul consecrated himself to orchestral conducting and the piano.
From 1994 to 2005, he was regularly invited to the Bastille Opera (Paris) and the Opera of Monte Carlo to assist the conductors Laurence Foster, Bruno Campanella, Pinchas Steinberg and Antonio Guadagno for the following works: Eugène Onéguine, Oedipus Rex, Le Rossignol, Carmen, Othello, Rigoletto, Roberto Deveureux and Le Voyage à Reims. In 2003/2004 he was the Assistant of Christophe Eschenbach at the Orchestre de Paris for Der Freischütz and Benvenuto Cellini.
Since 2004 he has assisted Emmanuel Villaume with a number of productions in Europe (Opéra Réal de Madrid, La Fenice of Venise, the Opera of Cagliari, etc.) as well as appearing every year at the Spoleto Festival USA (Charleston), where he has conducted over the past four seasons several symphonic concerts and the opera Mahagonny (directed by Patrice Caurier and Moshe Leiser).
Professor of Operatic Role Studies at the CNSMDP, Olivier Reboul led all the rehersals for Parsifal, directed by Pierre Boulez, at the Cité de la Musique (Paris) in 2003. He conducted Pelléas et Mélisande (orchestration by François Bou) and Albert Herring, which was then performed at the Opera of Rennes. In February 2008, he conducted Don Giovanni at the CNSMDP and at the Opera of Besançon.
Once again invited to the Spoleto Festival USA in June of 2008, he assisted Emmanuel Villaume with the opera Amistad by Anthony Davis, and conducted a concert including a symphony by Haydn and die Verklaerte Nacht by Schoenberg.
In January 2009, he assisted Laurence Equilbey with Albert Herring at the Opera of Rouen as well as the Opéra Comique in Paris; he also returned to the Bastille Opera for Strauss’ Salomé with Alain Altinoglu.
As a pianist, Olivier Reboul has recorded for radio in France and Europe, as well as for various television programs. He appears regularly as a recitalist in both France and the USA, where his recitals have been consistently praised by the critics.
